New Alfa Aesar European Distribution Centre Opens in Kandel Germany with ISO 14001
Alfa Aesar, a Johnson Matthey Company, has commenced operations in its new 4,600 square metre European distribution centre in Kandel, Germany. The building is located on a 14,500 square metre parcel of land, leaving considerable room for future expansion.
The new facility provides a significant increase in capacity to hold inventory of Alfa Aesar's line of research chemicals, metals and materials in both pre-packed catalogue and bulk sizes. The facility is equipped for the handling and rapid dispatch of Alfa Aesar's more than 30,000 products across continental Europe.
"The new building improves our ability to offer better customer service in the form of increased stocks of material," said Barry Singelais, President of Alfa Aesar. "Currently we fill orders from stock at a high level and we are confident in our ability to rapidly move the product from the warehouse shelf to our customer. Now we have the increased capacity to offer even more from inventory, both in standard catalogue pack sizes and in semi-bulk and bulk quantities."
The Kandel building features a modern geothermal system for comprehensive climate control of the entire facility and is divided into numerous hazardous material storage areas, each of which is outfitted with state of the art monitoring, suppression and containment systems. Operational capability in the new building is enhanced by significant cold storage.
Concurrent with the opening of Kandel, Alfa Aesar Europe has also just been awarded its ISO 14001 certification for environmental management in the new Kandel building and the Karlsruhe administrative offices.
