Elemental Form

A bluish-white metal, cadmium is soft, malleable and tarnishes in moist air. It is similar to zinc in many respects. Cadmium lowers the melting point of certain alloys and is used in bearing alloys to lower the coefficient of friction and improve resistance to fatigue. Cadmium is typically produced as a by-product in the treatment of zinc, copper, and lead ores.
