Formyl anion equivalent. Self-condensation was found to compete with alkylation in the Stork LDA procedure, but the molecule was successfully used to introduce a formyl group by SN2' alkylation in the presence of K2CO3, in a synthesis of -cyclocitral: Tetrahedron Lett., 25, 3457 (1984):
