Elemental Form| The metallic element calcium has a silvery color and is harder than sodium, but softer than aluminum. The pure element is never found in nature uncombined, rather, it commonly occurs as limestone (CaCO3), gypsum (CaSO4H2) and fluorite (CaF2). Calcium, one of the alkaline earth elements, reacts in air to form a white coating of nitride and reacts with water, alcohol and dilute acids with evolution of hydrogen.
