Anwendungen

It serves as a dopant for silicate mineral crystals in lasers, and a colorant for glasses and enamels. It is employed in the preparation of optical fibers, and special types of alloys. It is used in the preparation of chiral ytterbium complexes which are used as catalysts for enantioselective organic synthesis with high yields. It finds application in optic, electronic and ceramic industries.

Bemerkungen

Hygroscopic and air sensitive. Incompatible with strong acids, oxidizing agents and carbon dioxide.
