Nitric acid, 65-70% is used in as a nitrating or an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis. It is industrially used for the manufacturing of fertilizers. Further, it finds use in manufacture of explosives, nylon precursors, specialty organic compounds and drug intermediates. It is also used as a chemical doping agent for organic semiconductors, and in purification processes for raw carbon nanotubes, artificially age pine and maple. It is indirectly used as an oxidizer in liquid-fueled rockets for determining trace level metals in solutions.
