Anwendungen

Phosphorus(V) oxychloride is widely used as a dehydrating agent and a chlorinating agent. Useful for the conversion of amide to nitriles, in Bischler-Napieralski reactions, Vilsmeier Haak reaction, and other reactions producing commercially important intermediates. Acts a source of liquid phosphorus in semiconductor industry. Manufacture of trialkyl phosphate esters and triarylphosphate esters, including commercially popular tricresyl phosphate,which is useful as a plasticizer, flame retardant, gasoline additive, hydrolytic fluid, etc...

Bemerkungen

Reacts violently with water. Incompatible with many metals, alcohols, amines, phenol, DMSO and strong bases.
