Reagent for introduction of the t-butoxydiphenylsilyl protecting group for alcohols; see Appendix 4. The group is about 10x more stable to hydrolysis than TBDMS (see tert-Butyldimethylchlorosilane, A13064), but is cleaved by TBAF about 25x more readily: J. Org. Chem., 53, 2602 (1988). Selective cleavage has also been accomplished with Na2S.9H2O in EtOH, conditions under which TBDMS and TBDPS groups are unaffected: Tetrahedron Lett., 36, 7445 (1995)./n
