Solubility
Decomposes in water forming TeO{2} and HClSoluble in acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide and dimethylformamide. Slightly soluble in ether and benzene. Insoluble in cyclohexane, hexanes, methylene chloride and chloroform.

Applications

Tellurium(IV) chloride is used in organic synthesis to prepare Cl-C-C-TeCl3derivatives by reacting with alkenes and aryl tellurium compounds by reacting with electron rich arenes. It is involved in the preparation of diaryl telluride from anisole.

Notes

Hygroscopic. Moisture sensitive. Incompatible with strong acids.
