Soluble in water, pyridine and ethyl acetate. Partially soluble in acetone, alcohol and petroleum ether.

Applications

It acts as a stimulant drug and a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It plays an important role for the inactivation of Escherichia coli O 157:H 7 in brain heart infusion (BHI) broth. It is also useful for the protection from photodamage after ultraviolet irradiation.

Notes

It is stable and hygroscopic compound. Incompatible with strong acids, strong bases, strong oxidizing agents, iodine, silver salts and tannins. Weakly light sensitive in solution.
