Miscible with ethanol, chloroform, acetonitrile, ether, carbon disulfide, petroleum ether and glacial acetic acid. Immiscible with water.

Applications

Nickel(II) octanoate is used to prepare nickel based catalysts using niobia modified silica as support. It is also used as a catalyst and involved in the treatment of qaiyarah heavy crude oil, petrolene using ethanol as a solvent and reductant.

Notes

Incompatible with oxidizing agents and alkali metals.
