Applications

Diisobutylaluminum hydride is used as a reducing agent in organic chemistry. It is also used to reduce alpha-beta unsaturated esters to the corresponding allylic alcohol to ester, acyl chlorides to alcohols and nitriles to amines. It acts as an electrophilic reducing agent. It finds application in the palladium -catalyzed debromination of secondary alkyl bromides and ring opening of perbenzylated furaosides. Further, it acts as a co-catalyst for the polymerization of alkenes.

Air and heat sensitive. Incompatible with water, oxidizing agents, oxygen, alcohols and acids.
