Applications

Magnesium iodide is used to prepare compounds for organic synthesis. It serves as a useful reagent in the Baylis-Hillman reaction. It reacts with cyclic sulfates of vic-diols in order to prepare the corresponding olefins.

Hygroscopic. Air and light sensitive. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.
