Applications

Hydrogenation of nitro groups to amines, hydrogenation of carbonyl groups, hydrogenation of olefins to alkanes, reductive alkylation (stereoselective)Sponge Nickel, A-5000, nonpromoted is a standard catalyst used for most hydrogenation reactions such as hydrogenation of xylose to xylitol. It is also involved in the industrial hydrogenation of butyraldehyde to butanol, 2,4-dinitrotoluene to 2,4-diaminotoluene. Further, it is used as a catalyst in reductive alkylation reaction, especially tertiary diemethylaliphatic amine from aliphatic primary amine.

Notes

Incompatible with oxidizing agents.
