Applications

4,6-Dihydroxy-2-mercaptopyrimidine is used as a reagent in assaying malondialdehyde (theTBARS assay of lipid peroxidation). It is used to detect lipid oxidation, quantitating sialic acids and lipopolysaccharides.

Notes

Air sensititive. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents.
