Applications

Bromoethane is used in organic synthesis for the introduction of ethyl group. It is widely used as solvent, as an anesthetic in medicine and as a refrigerant. It is an important component of antiknock fluid in gasoline. It is also also used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals like vitamin A as well as in the manufacture of flame retardants.

Light sensitive. Store in cool place. Incompatible with strong bases, strong oxidizing agents, magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium oxides, aluminum, zinc and alkali metals.
