Soluble in water, dimethyl sulfoxide and ethanol. Insoluble in chloroform and acetone.

Applications

Vitamin B12 is used as a nutritional supplement and stabilizer in foods. It is also used as a medicine and animal feed supplement. It plays an important role in the synthesis of myelin. It is also used as an antipernicious anemia factor. Further, it is used to treat cyanide poisoning and hereditary deficiency of transcobalamin II.

Notes

Hygroscopic. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, bases and reducing agents.
