3-Ethoxysalicylaldehyde is employed in the preparation of Schiff base ligand through condensation with trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane. It is also useful for the preparation of substituted salen-type Schiff base ligands. Further, it is used to prepare 2-ethoxy-6-[(3-methylaminopropylimino)methyl]phenol by reaction with N-methylpropane-1,3-diamine.
