It finds application in both light and electron microscopy. It serves as an adhesive to stick glycol methacrylate sections to glass slides. Due to its large aromatic surface, it is used as a coating agent and modifies the property on the surfaces. It acts as a gelling agent for lubricating fluids and is also used in the modification of carbon paste electrode which promotes redox behavior and stability of electrode.
