alpha-Chymotrypsin, from bovine pancreas

Chemical Properties

Formula Weight
Lyophilized powder
Reconstitute in 1mM HCl. Soluble at 10mg/ml in 1mM HCl. 2mM calcium chloride serves as a stabilizer. Store aliquoted solutions at -20°C for up to a week.

α-Chymotrypsin from bovine pancreas is used for protein identification by mass spectrometry, the isolation and characterization of myosin heavy chains, the incubation of infected and uninfected cells for analysis of cellular proteins by SDS-PAGE. A serine protease that hydrolyzes peptide bonds with aromatic or large hydrophobic side chains (Tyr, Trp, Phe, Met, Leu) on the carboxyl end of the bond.

Suitable for protein sequencing. 3X crystallized and treated with TLCK to inhibit trypsin. Dialyzed to remove autolysis products and low molecular weight contaminants. One unit with hydrolyze one micromole of benzoyl-L-tyrosine ethyl ester per minute at 25°C, pH 7.8.
