Chloroform is a common laboratory reagent favored for use as a solvent due to the compounds relative unreactivity and miscibility with most organic compounds. Chloroform is also used in organic synthesis as a source for CCl2. It has been observed that Chloroform can release Ca2+ from ryanodine sensitive receptors in chloroform-induced contraction in swine tracheal smooth muscle. At concentrations of 100 and 250 ppm in mouse splenocyte, basal proliferation was increased yet a decrease in circulating neutrophils was documented.
