Triethylene glycol dimethyl ether is used as a solvent for gases and coupling immiscible liquid. It is also used to prepare perfluoro-triethyleneglycoldimethylether.
Useful aprotic solvent with chelating properties.
Has been used as solvent in a simplified Wittig synthesis, with anhydrous K 2 CO 3 as base and the phosphonium salt, such as Methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide, A15878, acting as both reactant and phase-transfer catalyst: Synth. Commun., 22, 513 (1992).
