Applications

Hydriodic acid is used to convert primary alcohol into alkyl iodide. It is used in organic and inorganic synthesis as one of the primary sources of iodine as well as a reducing agent. It is also used to cleave the ethers to get alkyl iodides and alcohols.

Notes

Hygroscopic. Air and light sensitive. Store in a cool place. Keep the container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Incompatible with metals, organic materials, alcohol, magnesium, potassium and perchloric acid.
