Applications

Benzene is widely used as a precursor to heavy chemicals, such as cumene, cyclohexane, nitrobenzene and alkylbenzene. In overall production, partial amount of benzene was spent for the synthesis of ethylbenzene which is used for a precursor to styrene and is used to make polymers and plastics like polystyrene and EPS. It finds in the applications in rubbers, lubricants, dyes, detergents, drugs and explosives. Benzene acts as a gasoline additive to increases the octane rating and reduces knocking.

Notes

Incompatible with acids, bases, halogens, strong oxidizing agents and metallic salts. Avoid heat, flames and sparks.
