Applications

(^+)-Citronellal is an active component of citronella oil. It is used as a flavoring agent, insect repellent, fragrance in soaps and detergents, and in personal care products like creams, lotions, and perfumes. It acts as a chemical intermediate for citronellol and hydroxycitronellal. Further, it is used to prepare 1-dibutylamino-3,7-dimethyl-oct-6-en-2-one by reacting with dibutylamine. In addition to this, it is utilized to inhibit the development of mechanical nociception induced by carrageenan (CG) and tumor necrosis factor-alfa.

Notes

Store in a cool place. Keep the container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Air and light sensitive. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids and strong bases.
