Hydrochlorides are salts resulting from the reaction of hydrochloric acid with an organic base (e.g. amines). Often heating is required to get the free base dissolved and the hydrochloride salt separates on cooling. Hence they find use in purification and separation of desired products in the synthesis and industrial scale up processes. Pyridine hydrochloride (C5H5N•HCl) is an example for hydrochloride, which is obtained by reacting pyridine (C5H5N) with hydrochloric acid (HCl). Pyridine hydrochloride is employed for the deprotection of phenol ethers.
