Affymetrix USB Biochemicals have moved to alfa.com

In early 2016, Thermo Fisher Scientific acquired Affymetrix, including its USB Biochemicals products. As of January 23, 2017 Thermo Fisher Scientific will move Affymetrix, USB Biochemicals onto alfa.com, where you will be able to purchase these and other Alfa Aesar Biochemicals under the Life Science section.

Affymetrix USB brand biochemicals are now a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific and available from the Alfa.com website and Thermo Fisher Scientific global sites. Affymetrix USB branded products include ultrapure buffers, substrates, additives, and reagents for a wide range of molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture applications.

High purity, dependable reagents are critical in obtaining reproducible results. USB biochemicals are meticulously tested for impurities to ensure their suitability for the dedicated applications. New Lab Start-Up Program now available in Europe

August 12, 2015, Heysham, UK– Alfa Aesar, A Johnson Matthey Company, has extended its New Lab Start-Up Program to include Europe.

The New Lab Start-Up Program is available throughout 2015. It is designed to make Alfa Aesar products available to researchers through an affordable discount program; previously it has only been available in the UK, US and Canada.  

Alfa Aesar is committed to making it easier for new labs to obtain research chemicals, metals and materials. The process has been made very simple. Complete the registration form and return to an Alfa Aesar representative, who will then advise if the eligibility criteria has been met. Once approved, items can be purchased through the New Lab Start-Up Program. A confirmation email will be sent out and will include additional information on how to get started.

Johnson Matthey agrees sale of Research Chemicals Business Alfa Aesar

June 26, 2015

Johnson Matthey announces that it has agreed to divest its Alfa Aesar Research Chemicals business to Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, for £256 million in cash, subject to typical post-closing adjustments.  The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the 2015 calendar year, subject to satisfaction of typical pre-closing conditions.    
 
Johnson Matthey’s Research Chemicals business, which operates globally under the Alfa Aesar brand, is a supplier of over 46,000 specialty chemicals into both industry and academic institutions in small scale research quantities via its catalogue.  It has a global network of operations with eight core sites supported by five stand-alone sales offices.  In total, the business employs approximately 480 people and is part of Johnson Matthey’s Fine Chemicals Division.

Biomedical Technologies (BT), now part of Alfa Aesar enhances lipoprotein manufacturing capabilities

May 27, 2015 – Ward Hill, MA – Biomedical Technologies (BT) has doubled its Ultracentrifuge capacity enhancing manufacturing capabilities for custom products due to market demand.

Preparative ultracentrifuges are used in biology for gradient separations, where the molecules in a sample are separated using a substance of graduated density, such as salt gradients for proteins. The process is often gradual and involves many sequential steps to obtain the desired gradient. BT is now able to double their lipoprotein manufacturing capability and significantly reduce lead times for both standard and custom products.
 
The lipoprotein manufacturing process is now 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to meet customers’ demands.
