Examples for other organometallic compounds include organocopper compounds such as (lithium dimethylcuprate (Li+[CuMe2]-)) which are called Gilman reagents, organonickel compounds (like tetracarbonyl nickel), organoiron compounds, organolithium compounds (such as n-butyl lithium), organozinc compounds (such as diethylzinc (Et2Zn) and chloro(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)zinc (ClZnCH2C(=O)OEt)), and organoaluminium compounds.

Organocopper compounds are used as alkylating reagents. The Gilman reagent is used as a methylating agent to create larger molecules from smaller ones. Tetracarbonyl nickel acts as an intermediate for the purification of nickel in the Mond process. The reaction of tetracarbonyl nickel with alkyl or aryl halides results in carbonylated organic products. In the transition-metal catalyzed synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, some of the chiral ferrocene compounds have been used. n-Butyl lithium is extensively used as a polymerization initiator in the production of elastomers. In organic synthesis, it is used as a strong base, also called as a super base. Organolithium on reaction with disubstituted amides yields specific aldehydes and ketones.

In organic synthesis, diethylzinc is used as a source of ethyl carbanion, for example, in addition reactions with carbonyl groups; and in combination with diiodomethane it is used in the Simmons-Smith reagent. In the synthesis of nanoparticles, diethyl zinc is used as a zinc source. Organoaluminium compounds like methylaluminoxane are used as co-catalysts for alkene polymerization. These are used exclusively to obtain regioselective compounds (an example is the ZACA reaction). In Suzuki coupling, organoborane compounds in conjunction with organopalladium compounds are used for transmetalation reactions.
