Applications

As a reducing agent for organic, inorganic and organometallic compounds, as a bleaching agent, in the recycling of gold and platinum metals, in organic synthesis, nonaqueous reducing agent for aldehydes, ketones, and schiff bases.Sodium borohydride is used as a reagent in the reduction of amino acids and their derivatives. Also used as a catalyst in the ammonia borane dehydrogenation. Sodium borohydride is used as a reducing agent in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles. It is also used for wood pulp and as a blowing agent for plastics. It reduces the aldehyde and keto groups to give the corresponding alcohols.

Notes

Caplet weight ^=0.85-1.0g. It is hygroscopic in nature. Sodium borohydride burns in air. It is a powerful reducing agent. It reacts with strong acids to produce poisonous diborane gas.

IF INHALED: Remove to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Specific treatment is urgent (see label). Store locked up. Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/international regulations.
