Applications

As a reducing agent of olefinic groups and ketonesLithium tri-sec-butylborohydride is used as a mild reducing agent in organic synthesis. It is also used as a stereoselective reducing agent for ketones and cyclic anhydrides. It is also employed for Michael-initiated ring closure reaction. It is involved in Overman's synthesis of strychnine. Further, it reduces (2-arylprop-1-en-3-yl)trimethylammonium iodides to 2-arylpropenes. In addition to this, it is used for conjugate addition and alkylation of alfa,beta-unsaturated esters.
