Applications

Tris, Hydrochloride is commonly used as a buffer component for phenol extractions of DNA or RNA and a buffering component of separating and stacking gels in the characterization of protein products by SDS-PAGE. Tris, Hydrochloride has also been used with urea as a method for antigen retrieval in immunohistochemistry. In smooth muscles Tris, Hydrochloride has been observed to inhibit motor responses to adrenergic motor nerve stimulation. Also uses include pH control in vitro and in vivo for body fluids and in buffering systems for electrophoresis applications. Tris has been used as a starting material for polymers, oxazolones (with carboxylic acids) and oxazolidines (with aldehydes).

Notes

Store in cool. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Store away from oxidizing agent.
