Alfa Aesar offer differentially carbamylated low density lipoproteins (c-LDL). Carbamylated Human LDL is made with potassium cyanage. Each lot is analyzed for the degree of carbamylation (via diacetylmonoxime assay and the e-carbamyl-Lysine (homocitrulline) present versus native LDL in nanomoles/mg protein) and the c-LDL migration versus the native LDL on agarose gel electrophoresis. /n
The low density lipoproteins carbamylated by urea has been postulated to have biologic effects relevant to atherosclerosis. Carbamylated LDL induces endothelial cell death and makes way for proliferation of smooth muscle cells. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors were not able to explain the presence of accelerated atherosclerosis in patients with kidney disease. Kidney patients have elevated urea which leads to carbamylation of proteins.
