It acts as a chemical intermediate for citronellol and hydroxycitronellal. Further, it is used to prepare 1-dibutylamino-3,7-dimethyl-oct-6-en-2-one by reacting with dibutylamine. In addition to this, it is utilized to inhibit the development of mechanical nociception induced by carrageenan (CG) and tumor necrosis factor-alfa.
