Slightly soluble in hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated sulfuric acid. Insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, and organic solvents.

Applicazioni

Titanium(IV) oxide is used in paints, varnishes, paper, plastics printing inks, sun screen, fibers, rubber, cosmetic products, anti-fogging coatings, foodstuffs, pure titanium, glass, glass ceramics, memristor, electrical ceramics, catalysts, electric conductors and chemical intermediates. It exhibit excellent photocatalytic properties (Honda-Fujishima effect) In addition, titanium dioxide is also used to cleave protein at the site where proline is present.

Note

Titanium dioxide is incompatible with strong reducing agents, strong acids, strong oxidizing agents, alkali metals, and alkaline earth metals.
